Cancer Prevention- Diet Is The Key

So, you are what you eat or to put it more bluntly, what you eat could kill you ! The other shocking statistic published after a telephone survey conducted by The American Cancer Society shows that the people who are most affected by cancer are those who are the most ignorant and less informed about what they eat and how their lifestyle will affect their chances of living a long and healthy life.
Lots of people think that chili peppers are bad for your stomach and that too much spicy food might not be such a good thing. Fact is that chilies contain a chemical called capsaicin which can neutralize nitrosamines which cause cancer. Chilies (used in moderation) are therefore a great ally in the fight against stomach cancer.
Cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are now well known allies in the fight against cancer. They contain a chemical that can change a cancer producing estrogen into a much milder version. This is particularly pertinent to breast cancer. In addition, broccoli have another chemical - called sulforaphane which can prevent colon and rectal cancer.
Mnay people chew on carrots because they know they are a health food and they play a part also in the prevention of cancer. This is because they contain falcarinol which is effectve in lowering th risk. Changing colour, avocados are a great antioxidant and ideal in the battle against the free radicals which have been shown to cause cancer cell growth.
It is well known that alcohol is regarded in most medical circles as damaging to health if consumed in great quantities. Indeed it causes liver and heart damage as it is a toxin. However, red wine, consumed in modest amounts, can be very beneficial to overall health and especially in cancer pervention as it contains polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants. In addition, the skin of the grapes contains resveratol which can stop cells multiplying.
All the Mediterranean fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruit are really healthy foods because they contain monoterpenes which will do the job of expelling carcinogens out of the body. These fruits also contain vitamin C, folic acid and beta-carotene.
Add nuts, mushrooms and figs to all these good things to eat and you have many of the essential ingredients of the Mediterranean Diet which has been researched all over the world because it is such a healthy diet and can play a significant part in preventing heart disease and lowering cancer rates. Why go to all the fuss of complicated meal plans, calorie counting and difficult recipes when you can all the benefits of tasty, easy food which the Mediterranean Diet provides.
