Quick Reviews on Insomnia

by Lindelwa Maseko

Do you wake up with headaches and have trouble staying awake during the day? If you answered yes to the questions above, chances are you may already be under a threat of a serious, potentially life-threatening sleeping disorder called sleep apnea. With apnea some sleep apnea patients may need surgery to remove excess tissue from the nose or throat (removal of adenoids and tonsils, nasal polyps or other growth) and to straighten a deviated septum.

In many cases of asthma breathing difficulties are caused by inflammation of the tonsils resulting from the presence of leukotriene receptors and Dr Goldbart and his team noticed that these same leukotriene receptors were present in the tonsils of children with sleep apnea. In the worst cases of sleep apnea a mask may again be necessary, as part of a Bi-PAP machine (Bi-level positive airway pressure).

Doctors perform sleep studies or polysomnography (PSG) to diagnose sleep related illness or symptoms. A sleep disorder as any difficulties related to sleeping, including: difficulty falling or staying asleep, falling asleep at inappropriate times, excessive total sleep time, or abnormal behaviors associated with sleep.

Now on sleep deprivation

With regard to the obesity cases, researchers have found that even mild sleep deprivation can disrupt the hormones ghrelin and leptin that regulate appetite. In the most severe cases, sleep deprivation can even cause hallucinations, nausea and, in the most severe cases, even death. f)A recent study at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine suggests that sleep deprivation in older adults can lead to earlier death.

After a stressful day some alternative activity is always a good way of winding down and freeing the mind from the mass of conflicting thoughts which can affect our ability to sleep. And lack of sleep or sleep deprivation can have a negative affect on different aspects of your life.

Some people think that sleep is a very basic thing. But getting longer sleep or "catching up on sleep" only weakens your sleep system, which in turn can even lower your immune system. You don't need MORE sleep, you need QUALITY sleep.

On sleep disorder

Narcolepsy, a chronic and commonly diagnosed sleep disorder, affects over a quarter of a million Americans each year (approximately one person in every two thousand). Experiencing difficulty in sleeping for any great length of time may well indicate that you suffer from a common sleep disorder. A sleep disorder as any difficulties related to sleeping, including: difficulty falling or staying asleep, falling asleep at inappropriate times, excessive total sleep time and abnormal behaviors associated with sleep.

Additionally, it is especially beneficial because all of these people share your problems, so they can not only relate to you, but they can potentially offer you advice. So do get down and find a solution to this problem.
